Help us WIN!!!

**The class with the highest PTA percentage will win a cookie party! Join today and help us win!**

What a Week!

We have had a fantastic first full week of 4th grade! We spent our days getting to know each other by completing challenging group tasks, writing on each others backs, chatting about our summers and trying to stay cool! Reading Logs are in the Friday folders today along with some information explaining the process. Please be sure to read at least 90 minutes this week AT HOME. Remember that students may read alone, to a grown-up or sibling, or someone may read to them. Newspapers, magazines, books, recipes all count as reading! Just make sure your child writes the reading down on the log. The At-Home Reading Log needs to be returned next Friday (Aug. 31st) for a reading grade. Thank you so much for the opportunity to get to know and work with your child! I think we are going to have a fabulous year! The kids have gotten along very well this week and seem eager to learn! If there is anything I can do or questions you need answered, feel free to send a note with your child or call the school! Let’s have a great year together!

Counting down!

Wow! Time is flying by! As you are reading this newsletter, there are only 13 days left for your 4th grader! There are so many things happening this time of year...end of year testing in just about every subject, field trips, packing, cleaning...busy, busy, busy! Thank you for continuing to help your kiddo with his/her science fair project! If your child is up to date on all the science fair assignments, then the boards were sent home today! If your child still has paperwork to complete, then please get it done this weekend so your child can receive his/her board on Monday. Completed boards are due on Wednesday, May 2. I can’t wait to see their finished projects! Please get the Camp Lindbergh permission slip signed and returned with the money as soon as you can. Yearbooks are still available for sale. They are $8 and you can send that money any time. The Burger King and Dairy Queen permission slip is being sent home again if it hasn’t been returned. Please get that signed and returned so we can all enjoy those trips together!

We have had a busy couple of weeks but the good news is that MAP testing is OVER!!! The kids did such a good job of using their strategies and showing their work! I am sooooo proud of each one of them! They did everything that we have been practicing all year! Their hard-work has paid off! Thank you for helping your kiddo with his/her science fair project! They are going really well! The kids are so engaged in their experiments and excited to get started on their boards. Remember that we have already purchased boards for each student so you do not need to worry about that! Boards will be sent home next Friday, as long as the students have kept up with the due dates of each step. Keep track of due dates with the calendar in the front of the Science Fair booklet. If you have any questions, you can always call or email me. There are no Friday forms to sign this week because we spent so much of our class time taking the MAP test. However, next week we will be back in our routine of homework every night and Friday forms! Please get the Camp Lindbergh permission slip signed and returned with the money as soon as you can. Also, yearbooks are still available for sale. They are $8 and you can send that money any time. There is another reminder about the carnival in the folder too. If you are a PTA member, wristbands are $5. If you are not, wristbands are $7. These are the pre-sale costs. If you wait to buy your wristband at the carnival then PTA members can get one for $7, and non PTA members can get one for $8. There are several events going on in the next 18 days--yes, 18 days! Can you believe it? On the left is a list of events to get on the calendar so you don’t miss anything! Thank you for all that you do! Enjoy your weekend!

3rd Quarter is Wrapping Up!

It's hard to believe that the 3rd quarter is under our belts and that conferences are right around the corner! The class has had a very successful 3rd quarter with lots of students on the Honor Roll! Way to go!
Please remember to practice those multiplication and division facts at home. Students should be able to efficiently multiply and divide up to 12. Also be sure your kiddo is reading at home. A good way to check is to ask questions about whatever is being read. Students should be able to have detailed conversations about their reading. If they can't, then they aren't really reading OR the book is just too hard for them.
Thanks for everything you do! See you soon!

Life in 4th grade...

We had an eventful week! The class was excited to enjoy our first snow-day on Monday and we celebrated our friendships on Tuesday at our Valentine’s Day party!
The students are loving their new IPads! This week we used a word sort activity to show our understanding of figurative language and suffixes. Ask your child to show you the app! They can also create their own word sort activities!
We began our new math unit this week so students will begin focusing their math skills on the world of geometry! They will get many hands-on experiences to deepen their learning! Poetry is off to a great start! Students have been working in pairs to get a handle on a variety of poetry objectives. They have already written some really creative pieces. Ask your child to share some of their poetry ideas with you!
There are no new Multiplication AND Division Masters this week. Keep practicing at home! The weekly tests will now be counted as a math grade each Wednesday. It is time for all students to be efficient multipliers and dividers!
Please remember to READ AT HOME!!! The best readers are those who practice at home by reading at home. Ask your child about their books, have them read to a sibling, or read a recipe to you. There are several reading apps on the IPad that students can use. Let’s get them excited about reading at home!
Thank you for all that you do! Enjoy your long weekend and I’ll see you Wednesday!

THE IPADS ARE HERE!

WOW! Excitement is in the air! Students received their IPads and we are learning the basics this week. We are exploring the apps, taking lots of pictures, and asking lots of questions. Remember, if you have questions, let us know! We will do our best to help out in any way that we can. As soon as the covers arrive, students will be bringing their IPads home so you can explore all the IPad has to offer! Have a great week!

IPAD TIME!!!

Greetings from 4th grade! January has been such a busy month that it went by in a blur! There is nothing to sign and return this week. Check out the reminders below and I’ll see you soon!
This week I just have a few reminders for you.
**Be sure your child has a winter coat each day.
**Remember to check on your child’s reading at home...TALK to them about whatever they are reading. ASK questions about the text. (It can even be as simple as “Do you like that book? Why?)
**Have your child spend some of their at-home reading time reading OUTLOUD to you. This will improve fluency and will give you a better idea of what questions to ask.
**Practice multiplication AND division facts at home. Use the packets that were sent home in December!
