HAPPY WINTER BREAK!!! Enjoy time with your family, do some sledding, drink some hot cocoa! Have a fantastic Christmas! I will see you in 2011!

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

We are keeping warm by keeping busy! Students have been spending their days finishing up units in math and science.
We have 3 benchmarks before break. On Monday we will begin the Communication Arts benchmark. This is a 3 day test. On Friday we will take the Math benchmark and on the following Monday we will finish up with the Science benchmark.
Please be sure your child is at school and is on time. We will be busy, busy, busy for the rest of the month and grades will be completed for 2nd quarter when we leave for Christmas break. That means, if there is anything your child hasn’t completed before we leave for break, it will be a zero.
We have 2 new Multiplication Masters! Good work, Amber and Alex! I hope that your holidays are off to a good start! Enjoy the time with your kids and maybe we’ll even get a snow-day or two to extend the holiday break!

Time to give thanks...

We are picking up the pace in 4th grade! Students are getting new learning experiences in math almost every single day. It is very important for students to be in class all day, every day! Math lessons consist of review of the previous days lesson, and then new learning. Please continue to help your child with homework each evening. Math homework in December will most likely be multiplication and division work.
This is a short week but definitely a full week! Along with the content work, students will continue to strut their stuff at practice for the Holiday Program! Ask them how its going! They are all very excited about the performance!
I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving! We all have so much to be thankful for...I can think of 24 little people to be thankful for. Thank you for letting me spend my days with your child! I am thankful for each and every single one of them! They have brought more smiles to my face than you can even imagine. :)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Busy, busy, busy!

2nd quarter is up and rolling! This week we started new units in Social Studies and Math. We finished up a writing project that will be displayed in the hallway. Stop by and check it out! The kids did a really nice job on their pieces!
I am excited to introduce you to our new teacher, Miss Taylor! She is currently a student at MWSU and will graduate in May. Miss Taylor is in our classroom from 10:30-2:30 each day and is working with small groups of students during her time here. She has also taken over the Spelling lessons. The students are really benefiting from having another teacher in the room to provide extra support during the day. The kids have enjoyed getting to know Miss Taylor and have already learned a lot from her!
Miss Taylor will officially begin her student-teaching in our class after our Winter break!

Thank you so much for attending your child's conference! It was great to visit with you about the growth your child is making! I always enjoy getting to brag about our class and I'm sure you enjoy hearing all of the wonderful things your child is doing at Lindbergh each day!
Again, thank you for supporting your child each day. They appreciate it more than you know! :)

It's time for Midterm Reports!

September 17, 2010

Dear families,

The 1st Quarter Midterm Report is being sent home today. You will not find the normal Friday folder form to sign and return. The midterm report has all the academic information you need. ☺

You will see your child's first set of grades for the first half of the 1st Quarter. Mid-term Reports are filled out so that you can see where your child is currently performing with specific objectives for each content area, and an overall grade is provided as well. There are still another 4 weeks left of 1st Quarter and plenty of time for improvement in all areas!

A specific objective that is not marked indicates that we have not covered it yet. Areas of concern are checked in the BB (Below Basic) column. If an objective is checked within the Basic column, it indicates that your child is working towards understanding and mastering the skill, but is inconsistent with the skill. Proficient and Advanced is the ultimate goal for all students.

Please continue to help your child with homework and chat with him/her about school. I have loved every minute of getting to know your child! We have an awesome class this year! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Please sign and return the Midterm Report by Monday.
Thank you for supporting your child! ☺

Here Comes Fall...

Hello, Families!
It is hard to believe that you have 3 weeks of fourth grade under your belt already! As you have felt, 4th grade is fast paced and requires your student to stay on top of his/her game! Not only are we focusing on content, but we are also striving to become a kind, responsible, honest community. This doesn't happen naturally--it takes some practice. There is a lot happening in Room 27! Ask your child what's happening at school, if they respond with, "Nothing," keep asking!
This week we will continue to learn strategies to improve our ability to add and subtract money. We will also begin to review multiplication. Please start reviewing the multiplication facts at home, as well.
The scientists in our room will continue to observe and research Green Anoles. We will focus on predators, prey, food chains and food webs. I have added a website that will help students practice creating food chains. There are several games for math and science on the site--check it out!
Continue to read at home. Ask your child about their reading, or better yet, sit down and listen to them read outloud. The kids love to chat about their reading and thinking!
We are going to polish our sentence writing skills this week. Please look at homework and be sure students have written their answers in complete sentences.
Thanks for checking in on our website! Pictures coming soon!

We're Rolling!

Thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with your child and help him/her with homework. The first week of homework is behind us and I am pleased with the results! We are starting content this week and will take our first district benchmark test. Continue to look for the homework each night, except for Fridays, and help your child do the best he/she can. I'm looking forward to working with each of you to help your child grow this year!
Please take some time to play on the links provided to the right. The math sites are an excellent way for kids to improve their skills while having fun.
Check back next week for new information! :)

Welcome Spring!

The kids worked so hard on the Math and Communication Arts MAP tests! It was exhausting BUT they did a fantastic job! You should be very proud of your student--I know I am! :) Also, a big THANKS to all the families who donated snacks for the testing days. The kids really appreciated it!

Continue to watch the Friday folders for important information about whats happening at Lindbergh...Spring is in the air and so are field trips! Be on the look out for permission slips and reminders about all of the exciting events coming up in the next few weeks.

We have a lot of learning left to do, so please make sure your child is at school each day and is on time. It is hard for a student to catch up and make up work when they have missed the teaching of the lesson. We begin school at 8:25. The kids have an assignment as soon as they walk in the door, so if they're late, they miss necessary work time.

Enjoy the sunshine and remember to continue to sit down with your child to help with the twenty minutes of homework Mondays through Thursdays.

Happy 3rd Quarter!

3rd quarter is off to a quick start! As you are aware, we have missed several days of school due to the weather. This means that we have had to use our time very wisely since we have been back.
School is busy with lots of new learning happening. We have new units in Math (measurement), Science (force and motion), and Writing (poetry). We also have a student teacher from Northwest Missouri State University learning with us. Miss Derks joined us after the winter break and will spend her days with us throughout February.
3rd quarter grades have already started so please remember to sit down with your child to go over homework. Three homework assignments a week count towards grades. The At Home Reading Log is very important, as well. Please help your child remember to read at home and have the form signed by you.
Your child is working hard each day! Ask them how school is going, what they are learning, what they are enjoying and what they are struggling with. If they answer any of these questions with, "Nothing," keep asking!
Thanks for all you do!

Here's what we've been up to...
