Wow! Wow! Wow!

Students took a shot at analyzing another students (from the book) work. They had to identify why the answer the student in the book chose was wrong. This is TOUGH stuff! Check out Jake's answer below. He showed his thinking process for each step of the problem. His answer shows his deep level of understanding of place value. Keep up the deep thinking, Jake!

Our learning this week...

We have been reviewing place value and expanding our knowledge of how to write numbers. Below are our current 4th grade expectations for writing numbers.

We have been reading and discussing texts together. This week we read "The Princess and the Pizza". While reading, we shared our predictions, learned new vocabulary words, reminded each other about the features of a story, and talked about how we knew this text was a fairy tale. We also focused on providing text evidence when giving an answer. Ask your child to tell you a little about the fairy tale.

Homework!

As a class, we discussed how to efficiently solve the homework from Tuesday night. As you can see, it is all about knowing the vocabulary, recognizing the pattern, and knowing place value. Thank you for sitting down with your child and going over the nightly homework each evening!

Mr. Mathematician!

On Wednesday some of us reviewed the 99 strategy, while others were seeing it for the first time.  The 99 strategy allows for us to subtract without borrowing. It makes subtracting big numbers easier! Blakely came in Thursday morning and applied that learning! Keep showing us your awesome math skills, Blakely!

Jump Rope Champ!

Several of our 4th graders have been spending their recess time learning how to jump rope when friends are turning the rope. A few of the 4th graders already had some experience and are pretty good at it! Here is Juana showing off her skills! She is the current champ with 39 jumps!
