Please remember to send $1 for the pizza party. Students can bring in a drink of their choice to enjoy with the pizza. If a student forgets their drink, they may get a milk. You may send treats with your child to share, but make sure they are store bought and unopened.

A Few Reminders From Miss Simmons… ☺

**Thank you for attending your child’s conference! It was great to chat with you!
**Remember to always check the Friday folders for information about current and future events at Lindbergh and around the community.
**2nd quarter is underway and the expectations of each student are getting higher and higher! Practice multiplication facts every night until they become natural!
**Continue to talk to your kiddo about their reading. We don't want any "fake" readers! Ask them questions about the characters and plot of their texts. They love to talk about their reading! If they can't tell you about their book, then they're not really reading!
**Thank you for everything you do!

It's hard to believe...

It's hard to believe that first quarter is almost over! The students have worked so hard and have already grown so much! I am so proud of the learning the students have done since August! We have been through many early-outs, lots of heat, and above all, lots of learning!
There are always so many great activities going on at Lindbergh, so continue to check those Friday folders for information about all the events happening at school!
Keep practicing multiplication facts. We are getting ready to start multiplying bigger numbers so we need everyone to become a "Multiplication Master!" Ask your student about the deal I just made with them...
See you soon!

It's Midterm Time!

The 1st Quarter Midterm Report is being sent home Friday, September 16. You will not find the normal Friday folder form to sign and return. The midterm report has all the academic information you need.

You will see your child's first set of grades for the first half of the 1st Quarter. Mid-term Reports are filled out so that you can see where your child is currently performing with specific objectives for each content area, and an overall grade is provided as well. There are still another 4 weeks left of 1st Quarter and plenty of time for improvement in all areas!

A specific objective that is not marked indicates that we have not covered it yet. We have not started our unit in Social Studies yet so a grade is not given. Areas of concern are checked in the BB (Below Basic) column. If an objective is checked within the Basic column, it indicates that your child is working towards understanding and mastering the skill, but is inconsistent with the skill. Proficient and/or Advanced is the ultimate goal for all students.

Please continue to help your child with homework and chat with him/her about school. I have loved every minute of getting to know your child! We have an awesome class this year! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Please sign and return the Midterm Report by Monday.

Thank you for supporting your child!

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE TO STAY!

It is so great to see the sun shining and hear the birds singing! The windows are open and we can see summer vacation on the horizon!

Students are starting to get squirmy to be outside, but we've still got a lot of learning and work to do. We have 2 district benchmarks this week! Homework will continue to come home, as well as, the at-home reading logs. Please be sure your child is reading. Spend the twenty minutes before bed reading together to squeeze it into your busy spring schedule.

Omaha Zoo field trip money is due this Friday. We need to pay both the bus company and the zoo, so please get your money turned in asap.

Enjoy the sunshine! Thanks for all you do!

APRIL UPDATE!

Dear Families,
I cannot express to you how PROUD I am of our class!!!! Every single student did their very best on the MAP test this week and they all did an AMAZING job! Pat your kiddo on the back and celebrate their hard work this weekend!

Remember that we will take the Communication Arts MAP test next week. Testing will begin on Tuesday morning and continue on Thursday and Friday mornings.

Please be sure your child is here ON TIME EVERY SINGLE DAY! Once we begin the test, no one can enter or exit the room until the tests are completed and returned to the office. It is important that the kids get plenty of sleep and eat breakfast each day, as well.

Thank you so much to our class families for donating snacks and drinks to the class for MAP testing treats! The kids have really enjoyed the goodies!

I would like to have a mini-celebration on Friday, April 8th to recognize the students for their hard work. I would like to show the movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” that afternoon. If you do NOT want your child to watch this movie, just let me know as soon as possible and I will choose a different movie. If you would like to send a treat for the class, you are welcome to do so! Miss Taylor and I would like to let the kids enjoy a pizza party on Friday also, so if you could send $1 to school, it would be appreciated!

Remember to read everything in the Friday folder carefully. There is going to be lots of information coming home regarding field trips and special events that will be happening at school.

Thank you for all you do! Enjoy the warmer weather!

It was great to chat with you at conferences! Thank you so much for coming!

Back to our routine!

We have had a couple of really busy weeks! It is nice to be back in our routine again!

We have finished our math unit in Measurement and the benchmark scores were sent home in the Friday folders. Miss Taylor and I will be team-teaching the current math unit, Geometry. Students will get several hands-on experiences to deepen their understanding and enhance their spatial awareness.

We will take our science benchmark to show our knowledge of Force and Motion on Thursday. Look for those scores in the Friday folder this week.

In reading, students will be comparing and contrasting character traits. We will use each other, read-aloud books and independent reading books to determine character traits, as well as, to compare and contrast the traits.

Have your child read outloud at home so you can enjoy the books too! Remember to ask your child about their reading. Here are some example questions to ask...
**Who is the main character in this story?
**Do you like this character? Why or why not?
**What do you think is going to happen next? (prediction)
**Why do you think the character did that?
**What would you have done differently?
**What is the setting of the story? (where and when the story takes place)
Reading is the key to learning, so help your child enjoy it!

Another short week...

Well, we have had another very short week! Hopefully, we have enjoyed our last snow days and we can get back to our normal routine!
In math, we are still polishing our skills in telling time to the nearest minute, measuring to the nearest half-inch, finding change from $10, and recognizing patterns to solve problems.
Please be sure that your child is reading at home. Reading just 20-30 minutes a night and talking about the reading will improve vocabulary, fluency and enjoyment of reading. We all know that to get better at anything, we must practice! Reading is no different! Good readers are good readers because they read! Help your child become a stronger reader tonight!
It’s almost time for our Valentine’s Day! Party details went home on the newsletter last week. The kids know the details so if you need some information, check with them! If you still have some questions, just let me know. We will be celebrating on Monday, February 14th from 1:20-2:45. Remember, if your child brings Valentines and/or treats they MUST bring enough for EVERYONE.
Midterms were scheduled to go home Friday, February 4th, but because of the short week, they will be sent home next Friday. The grades are current online if you would like to see the assignments as well as the grades.
We are so happy to have Miss Taylor back! She will begin teaching a few lessons next week. Our class is very lucky to have 2 teachers ready to help them learn!
Please be sure you child is here on time each day unless he/she is ill. Our learning time has been shortened but the amount of learning has not been shortened! Every single day, we will be learning new concepts and practicing previously learned concepts. Even though we have less learning time, we will still be digging deeply into our learning and creating meaningful experiences. Please help your child get back into a routine with an early bed time, nightly homework help and nightly reading.
Thanks for all you do!

Time to get our routine back!

Wow! We have had a snow-filled January! Our routine is out-of-whack, but when we are at school, the kids are working hard to get that focus back!
We are continuing to focus on finding the Area and Perimeter of regular and irregular figures. This has been our main math focus on the few days we’ve been back. We will move into measuring in inches, feet and yards with rulers and telling time on an analog clock this week. We are writing to prompts and will begin a project for a writing grade on Monday.
Please continue to look at and help (when needed) with the nightly homework. Remember that homework will come home Monday-Thursday nights and the Homework Logs will always have the homework written down along with weekly reminders.
It is extra important that the kids are here every single day, unless they’re sick, because our daily learning is going to be in over-drive! We have missed a lot of learning with all these snow-days, so please be sure your child is here when school is in session.
Thanks for all you do!

WELCOME BACK!

We have had a great short week! The kids have gotten re-focused and back to work. As you have noticed, homework is back in the routine. Please continue to read through the homework each night and help when necessary.
Grade cards are included in the Friday folder this week. Please sign and return the grade card by Monday, January 10.

Here's what we've been up to...
