Unit 23 Spelling Words

Force and Motion

Our science unit had us exploring force and motion. Students worked in teams to build a vehicle, then tested the distance (spelling word) the car would travel with different amounts of weight. Students learned that the more mass an object has, the more friction there is. Friction slows objects down, so the more friction, the shorter the distance the car will travel. They collected data, then recorded it on a graph.

4th and 5th Grade Science Night

Last week, we had visitors from Union Star help facilitate our science night. Students moved around the commons to experiment with a variety of activities. Below are just a few pictures from the evening.

Heaven and Yoselin won prizes for attending the science night! They both won kits to build a robot!

Reading Teams!

Students read a historical fiction book independently, then got into groups to discuss the book. They identified the technology that was introduced in the book, the problem, the solution, and had a writing response to their book. Finally, groups shared a book summary and their charts with the class.

Recess!

Last week our class had excellent reports from two different substitutes! They earned extra recess for their spectacular behavior! Luckily, the weather cooperated and we enjoyed warm, sunny weather!
